Milford, NH

The town of Milford is located in Hillsborough County and is where approximately 15,050 people call home. It is the retail and manufacturing center of a six-town area known informally as the Souhegan Valley, located at the meeting point of New Hampshire Routes 13 and 101A. It is nestled fifty-five miles north of Boston and a short drive to the state’s largest city of Manchester.

Milford was once home to numerous granite quarries, which produced a stone that was used, among other things, to make the pillars for the U.S. Treasury, in Washington, D.C. still seen on the American $10 bill. It moved on to textile mills in the 19th century, which closed after WWII, but Milford remains the commercial and retail center for surrounding towns. The historic downtown is the heart of the community boasting numerous businesses and shopping opportunities. The town has a total area of 25.3 square miles, with its downtown considered a regional commercial destination in the Manchester-Nashua metro area.

A short drive to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport or Boston’s Logan airport the city has convenient air travel to most any location in the US and Canada. State Highway Route 101 and 101A connect the community to points east and west and Route 13 allows access to destinations north and south of town.

THE KEYES MEMORIAL POOL: Keyes Memorial Pool is a town-operated facility open from June through August with lessons for adults and children available as well as public open swim.

THE WADLEIGH MEMORIAL LIBRARY: Offering enrichment and providing informational, educational and recreational resources and services to the Milford Community. The Wadleigh Memorial Library offers more than 70,000 books, 200 periodicals and magazines, teen and children’s activities, book discussion groups and online services.

Police Department: Milford Police Department has thirty-eight employees, with twenty-five full-time sworn officers, nine full and part-time administrative personnel, three traffic aides and a full time criminal attorney in charge of prosecution. They provide service 24-hours a day.

Fire Department: The Milford Fire Department is a combination department with three full-time and forty-eight call personnel. It operates with four engines and one ladder truck, each manned by a company that is supervised by a Captain and Lieutenant. The department also operates a heavy rescue, which is staffed by all personnel who are trained in technical rescue, auto extraction, hazardous materials and water rescue.

The school system: The Milford Schools educate 2,600 pre-school through high school students within its five school facilities. Two hundred teachers provide a highly personalized education to its students, offering curriculum and instructional methodologies designed to allow each student to achieve to his or her potential.

The Jacques Memorial and Heron Pond elementary schools provide children with an excellent foundation for educational advancement while the Milford Middle School meets the needs of developing adolescents. Each of the programs offers full-time Gifted and Talented instruction to selected students. The Milford High School and Applied Technology Center serves as a model for real world, integrated learning experiences. Milford offers a full array of interscholastic athletic activities, including swimming and wrestling, in the state’s intermediate division.

Nearly seventy five percent of Milford students go on to post-secondary education.

Colleges: Within easy commuting distance are Nashua Community College, Saint Anselm College, University of New Hampshire at Manchester, Daniel Webster College, Manchester Community Technical College, Southern New Hampshire University and Franklin Pierce University.
