Nashua, NH

The city of Nashua is located in Hillsborough County and is home to approximately 89,000 people, which makes it the second largest city in the state of New Hampshire- second only to Manchester. It is nestled forty-six miles north of Boston and a short drive to the state’s largest city of Manchester. Founded in 1655 as a fur-trading town, Nashua later was built around the now-departed textile industry. In recent decades it became part of the economic growth and expansion of the Boston region and twice was named by Money Magazine as a “best place to live”. The arrival of Digital Equipment Corp. (now Hewlett-Packard) was the start of making the city part of the high-tech corridor to Boston.

The town has a total area of 31.8 square miles with the downtown considered a regional commercial, enetertanment and dining destination. Amherst Street and the Danial Webster Highway offer many shopping options including the Pheasant Lane Mall.

A short drive to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport or Boston’s Logan airport the city has convenient air travel to most any location in the US and Canada. The Everett Turnpike is the major highway running through the city. Public transportation is provided by the city’s transit system via a bus line.

THE EDMUND KEEFE AUDITORIUM: Constructed in 1936 as part of the Nashua High School and Civic Complex the Keefe Auditorium is the city’s largest performance venue, seating 1,200 patrons.

THE NASHUA PUBLIC LIBRARY: The city has two libraries for enrichment of the public. The Hunt Memorial Library opened in 1903 and is now a venue for library readings and small audience art performances. The city’s International Style Library opened in 1970 on Court Street overlooking the Nashua River. The Nashua Public Library is one of the downtown destinations for residents and visitors.

COURT STREET THEATER: A unique space with 150 seats that offer performances by various theatrical and dance companies as well as the Nashua Symphony Orchestra.

Police Department: Nashua Police Department is made up of more than 177 sworn in full-time and part-time officers and provides service 24-hours a day.

Fire Department: The Nashua Fire Rescue, under the direction of Fire Chief Brian Morrissey, provides a force of 176 firefighters.

The school system: The Nashua School District is a 12,300 student school district. Nashua’s high chool is split into two locations Nashua High School North and Nshua High School South it has three middle schools; Elm Street, Pennichuck and Fairgrounds Middle School for grades 6-8.
