Salem, NH

The town of Salem is located less than 40 miles north of Boston and spans a radius of 25.9 miles in Rockingham County. Its town seal offers a motto, "Industry, Commerce, Recreation," which serves as a perfect backdrop for the community's unique assets - location, accessibility, unspoiled natural resources and a pro-business attitude. Salem mixes small town, rural living with the advantages offered by a city. It is home to 29,600 residents, and in the world of business, it serves as a marketing and distributing center north of Boston. It is home to a major amusement attraction, Canobie Lake Park, and a large shopping mall, The Mall at Rockingham Park.

Settled in 1652 the city developed rapidly in the 1950 as part of growth from Greater Boston seeping into the north, which settled along the Route 28 corridor.

With easy access to major highways of Route 93 and 495, Salem is a reasonable travel distance to Boston or major points north like the city of Manchester. A short drive to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport or Boston’s Logan airport the city has convenient air travel to most any air-travel destination.

AMERICA’S STONEHENGE: A tourist attraction and place where locals love to hike, this archaeological site consists of a number of large rocks and stone structures scattered around roughly 30 acres. America's Stonehenge is open to the public for a fee and offers historic tours, hiking, snowshoeing.

CANOBIE LAKE PARK: A popular attraction for people from all over New England, it is a full-scale amusement park offering over 85 exciting rides, thrilling live entertainment, shopping and attractions.

ROCKINGHAM PARK: Rockingham Park features thoroughbred, harness and Greyhound tracks with races simulcast across the country seven days per week.

THE MALL AT ROCKIGHAM PARK: The largest mall in the state of New Hampshire, it is two levels with a total of 1,250,000 square feet of space that is home to Macy’s, Sears, JC Penny and 140 other stores and restaurants.

Police Department: The Salem Police department is a full-service police agency, serving a community of almost 30,000 residents. The daytime population increases to 70,000 and around certain times of the year can be more than 85,000 due the many businesses and organizations in the community. A staff of 59 full-time and 22 part-time sworn officers, and 20 non-sworn personnel provide law enforcement service round the clock.

Fire Department: Salem Fire maintains an on-duty shift of fifteen persons within the community operating from three fire stations. Currently, Salem Fire Department employs seventy-four men and women dedicated to protecting our town and its visitors twenty-four hours a day, year round.

The school system: Salem School District is comprised of six elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. Elementary schools are: Barron, Fisk, Haigh, Lancaster, North Salem and Soule Elementary. The Woodbury School serves as the town’s middle school and Salem High houses grade 9-12. The district’s number of students is approximately 5,000 and more than half the teaching staff holds a Masters degree.

Colleges: Located in the community is a campus of Hesser College, Southern New Hampshire University (Salem satellite campus), American College of History and Legal Studies. Also within easy commuting distance are Nashua Community College, Saint Anselm College, University of New Hampshire at Manchester, Daniel Webster College as well as Boston colleges and universities.
